Red Sox take close one from Angels

The Boston Red Sox edged the Los Angeles Angels Of Anaheim yesterday at Fenway Park with the Red Sox securing the victory 9 to 8. You don’t often see such high scoring games, and anyone with Red Sox tickets sure got their money’s worth. This high-scoring game saw the teams combine for a whopping 17 runs! Talk about excitement!

Red Sox pitcher Daniel Bard (3.43 ERA) got the win, while Brian Fuentes (4.41 ERA) took the loss for the Angels. Paul Byrd went 5.1 innings for the Red Sox, allowed 9 hits, one home run and 3 earned runs with one walk and 4 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Red Sox was Takashi Saito (2.54), Ramon Ramirez (2.79), Hideki Okajima (3.47), and Manny Delcarmen (3.42). The Angels’s starter Joe Saunders went 5.2 innings, allowed 8 hits, no home runs and 2 earned runs with 3 walks and 5 strikeouts. Jason Bulger (3.41), Kevin Jepsen (4.56), and Darren Oliver (2.67) also pitched for the Angels. With the win, Bard’s record goes to 2-1, while Fuentes drops to 1-5.

In addition to the 9 runs, the Red Sox put up 13 hits and committed one error. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Red Sox, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. Dustin Pedroia had a tough day at the plate, leaving 4 runners on base. Erick Aybar had the most hits for the Angels (4), followed by Juan Rivera (3), and Bobby Abreu (3). Chone Figgins could not get much going at the plate as he left 5 runners on base. The Angels got 8 runs, 17 hits and one error.

Umpiring duties were performed by Rick Reed, Jeff Kellogg, Tim Timmons and Mark Wegner. There were 37,706 Red Sox ticket holders in attendance at Fenway Park.

The win puts the Red Sox at a record of 86-58, (6.5 games behind the division leader), while the loss brings the Angels to 86-59, at the top of their division. The Angels will try to return the favor tomorrow. There are still plenty of tickets available so take a look.
